Setting your character name via the command line works just fine:
gw.exe -email [email protected] -password yourpassword -character "your name"
(use quotes on the character part, as above)

I may be wrong here, but I believe the (x86) part is only for folks with a 64bit OS - if you're still running 32 bit OS it would just be -
"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -email [email protected] -password 123456 -character Bob
If the x86 part isn't there to begin with, don't add it - it's not required.
|
Yes thanks for clearing that up. Sorry I didn't communicate properly.
As for the new security line just put -character (character name)
I was just fooling around for 5 min typing in -security, -security question, etc. until I said "I'll try character" and it worked so.
You don't need these [ ], { }, or ( ) None of that stuff.

Doesn't work when I tried it. Be it quotes or brackets or whatever. There is no character command line option.

Or they can simply read the shortcut files that you have created on your desktop since you have specified them as command line options.
My advice: Don't create shortcut files with your email, password, and character name if you want a tighter security for your GW account credentials.

Quotes on the character name not working for me. Only works if I have already logged in on that account and the new character name is filled in; if I try to change accounts (or uncheck the remember option) it fails.
Pesonally, I'd like to make it work. I don't think a keylogger would see the info, so if they get in deep enough to read my shortcut I got bigger problems.

I'm pretty sure you have worse chances with your security while actually typing your pw during login rather then having a script set up to take care of that. If keeping it on desktop is also a concern, maybe another location would be sufficient?

Unless you are the type to let anyone and everyone free access to your PC, you are completely safe creating shortcuts. And it's safer than typing as the info is already there, so no typing for keyloggers to see.
That said, they NEED to add the option of putting the character name as a parameter, NOTHING is working here, in quotes, no quotes, with ='s, no ='s nothing. And with 6 accounts this is going to get to be a fecking PITA real quick, because the very last thing you can do is click 'Remember character'.

After reading what you said, I just tried
-character "Char Name"
-character Char Name
-character=Char Name
-character="Char Name"
-character= Char Name
and -character= "Char Name"
Not one of them worked, and yes I am entering the right name.

just put in
-character Bob The Awesome
NO quotations or parentheses, or equal signs.
Replace "Bob The Awesome" with your character name.
1. Place the GW icon on desktop (easiest) no hackers can't look at it. If they can you've got bigger probs then a gw character dump.
2. Open the properties of the icon.
3. delete what you see
4. paste "C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -email [email protected] -password 123456 -character Bob
The WHOLE thing.
change the info for your info.

Marvel, careful here - some will have installed outside of the default install location (e.g a games drive, which is what I have) or will be running 64bit (thus it being "C:\Program Files (x64)\Guild Wars\GW.EXE"), providing of course C:\ is the drive letter being used.
I couldn't get mine to work until I tried an -image. Now works fine, so people might want to try this as well if they cannot get this to work.

-yes, and you don't have to type it in again unless you change your PW or you delete/change the name of your character.

I just ran -image and still no joy.
Do those of you who have it working have more than one account?
I have a main account with a character named bob smith. I have a second account with a character named bill jones. IF I have logged into the bob smith account and checked save info, then the shorcut for the bob smith account logs me in just fine.
But, if I log into the bill jones account then log out, the shortcut for bob smith no longer works until I have manually logged into it once so the character name bob smith is there.
And even after the -image my GW.exe file is unchanged - version 1.0.0.1.

If you did it with a runline command from the start>run they wouldn't be able to find it as easy because runlines are stored in the registry and you can't mod the registry or open it's main file while that target machine is booted into Windows.
Basically if you are on wireless, password it or just run wired only, its safer.
If someone hacks you locally (wirelessely) they are close by just call the cops, hahaha.

You may have "found it", but it just plain didn't work for those of us with multiple accounts until after the update.
Still I'm very glad it got fixed, so now all is right.. now if only a certain chest would spit out a certain gold item...
